Fruits of Summer

Break out the steamer.... chokecherries are here!!! Oh, how we love chokecherry jelly and syrup. For those of you who have never seen them on the bush, here they are. They grow along the side of the roads, particularly where there is water. (Much easier to find than huckleberries.) And, while huckleberries are wonderful, I absolutely love the flavor of chokecherry syrup. It was a big hit at our family reunion this summer, too.
So, I've steamed all we picked, but now I have to make about four batches of jelly. Just in time for school lunch packing-- peanut butter and chokecherry jelly sandwiches. Mmmm.
