Apparently my fellow bloggers are well able to be amused at satire, but my real-life friends are not. Tonight at Girls Night Out, I was repeatedly harassed for my unabashed negativity with regard to the facebook post. On the way home, I was seriously wondering if I ought to give up facebook and blogging all together. Nathan has always warned me that I'm too free with my opinions and personal information. I suppose this is one of those cases.
Facebook is one of those places where there is an excess of folly, vice or stupidity. I thought everyone would recognize the intended humor in the post, and honestly, I did give fair and proper warning that it wasn't going to be nice.
So, hate me. I'm mean and nasty and overly negative. Boo hoo.
Swift wasn't really a cannibal. When he wrote A Modest Proposal, he offended many who simply didn't understand that it was satire. At least I didn't suggest eating babies. Y'all can just simmer down.

I was not offended by what you wrote or what you said last night either. I thought it was hilarious that you would write all about how Facebook is like high school all over again. I was just saying that I hide people or just don't really care what some people status updates are. I'm glad you came to GNO and explained your opinions!
ReplyDeleteYou put into words what most people have said over and over and over. Facebook is very simple, superficial chatter. That's fine and has it's place, but a blog will be much more personal over time. At least that is how I feel I'm represented on FB vs Blogger.
ReplyDeletePlease don't stop blogging. As far as FB goes, I still appreciate your Eddie Izzard/Lego piece. I giggle just thinking about it!
ha! You wish I was offended. ha! whatever.
ReplyDeleteBut guess what --- my husband got a fabulous bonus @ work today....a free trip around the world. Isn't that great???!!! He is truly the best.
Hey, Marcalicious, you forgot to brag about your angel children and your fat paychecks. (Mrs. Hitch) ;)
ReplyDeleteSatire notwithstanding, I pretty much agreed with everything you said, EXCEPT, I like getting at least a little (superficial though it may be) contact with those who don't care to blog or are crappy at e-mails.
ReplyDeleteLoved your Facebook post, satire and all!!
ReplyDeleteI have given you an award... go to my blog to check it out!
ReplyDeleteMichelle,
ReplyDeleteYou can get those beads at any craft store, JoAnns or Michaels... they come in a clear bucket.
I love that you have girls night out! You gave plenty of warning in your facebook post and I completely agree with what you said about Facebook versus blogging. I don't blog, probably because it IS so much more personal, but I love reading those of the people I know. Much more informative than Facebook.
