The other day I put Josie down for a nap. I heard her in her bed talking to herself, banging her bottle on the bars. Then, BOOM! I knew the sound. It was a toddler head hitting the floor. I dashed into the room, and sure enough, she was laying on the floor beside her crib. I loved her better, then proceeded to take out of the crib any extra blankets and stuffed animals that might be used as a step. I moved the crib farther away from Mazie's bed thinking that she might have used Mazie's mattress as a step.
Today I put Josie down early for her nap. She was acting cranky, so I was more than willing to giver her a little quiet time with her bottle. About half an hour later, I heard her trying to open the door. It's official. She can climb out of the crib. Yikes! What am I going to do about time-out and forced naps? None of my other kids mastered climbing out of the crib until they were two.
As a side note, as I'm typing this, Josie is sitting next to me playing with her bottle and a cup. She said, "No, no, Mommy. Shhhhh!" to her toys.
I'm not ready for the terrible twos!

My sister just asked about this same thing. How do you "make" them take a nap or time out when you can't put them in their crib? I can't remember what I did... (Blocking out the terrible two's and all) If/when you figure it out, let me know and I'll share the wisdom with my sister. She's going to have her next baby next week and NEEDS her two year old to still take a nap.
ReplyDeleteI remember this! Sydney quit taking naps at about two years old! My other two were better! Good luck and enjoy it, for she too will grow up!
ReplyDeleteHannah climbed out of her crib at 18 months. 2 months before I was to give birth to Josh. I was freaking out! Putting an 18 month old into a big bed seemed so crazy to me, but she did great. Well, she did great after the first week of playing the "let's get out of bed game"...after we took care of that little problem, then all was fine ;)
